Ingredients for Asparagus Black Bean Sauce Stir Fry

  • White Wine
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup black bean sauce
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Fresh Ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Vegetable Broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 pound asparagus, trimmed
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup roasted cashews, roughly chopped (optional)

How to Make Asparagus Black Bean Sauce Stir Fry

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of dry sherry or cooking wine and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch until completely smooth. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup black bean sauce, 2 minced cloves of garlic, and 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the black bean sauce mixture to the hot oil. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Stir in 1/4 cup of chicken or vegetable broth and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
  6. Increase the heat to medium-high.
  7. Add 1 pound of trimmed asparagus and 2 thinly sliced green onions. Stir-fry for about 4 minutes, or until the asparagus is crisp-tender.
  8. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a tablespoon or two of additional broth to prevent sticking.
  9. Remove the asparagus and green onions from the pan and set aside.
  10. Reduce the heat to medium.
  11. Add the wine and cornstarch mixture to the pan. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  12. Pour the thickened sauce over the asparagus and green onions. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup of roasted cashews (optional) and serve immediately.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
