How to Make Banana Rama
- **Prepare the Ice Cream:** Combine 3 sliced bananas, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup milk in a food processor or blender. Puree until completely smooth.
- **Add Flavor:** Stir in 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and the remaining 1 cup of milk.
- **Blend Again:** Puree until completely smooth. Transfer the mixture to an 8x8 inch metal or plastic container.
- **Initial Freeze:** Cover and freeze for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
- **Break it Up:** Remove from the freezer and break up the frozen mixture using a fork or knife.
- **Smooth it Out:** Working in batches, process half the mixture at a time in a food processor or blender until smooth and creamy. (This step helps to remove ice crystals)
- **Final Freeze:** Return the smooth ice cream to the 8x8 inch container, cover, and freeze for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up before serving.
- **Make the Chocolate Sauce:** In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, and 2 tablespoons cornstarch until smooth.
- **Cook the Sauce:** Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the sauce thickens (about 5 minutes).
- **Finish the Sauce:** Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- **Serve it Up:** Serve the Banana Rama ice cream in small cups or bowls. Top with sliced bananas and drizzle generously with the warm chocolate sauce. Enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
