How to Make Barcelona Hot Chocolate
- Combine 2/3 cup (160ml) boiling water and 4 ounces (113g) chopped dark chocolate in a medium saucepan. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Add 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon orange zest, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan.
- Cook over medium-low heat, whisking continuously to prevent scorching.
- Heat for 5 minutes, or until tiny bubbles form around the edge of the pan. Continue to whisk frequently.
- Remove the orange zest from the hot chocolate.
- Pour 1 cup (240ml) of the chocolate mixture into each of four mugs.
- Top each serving with 1 tablespoon of whipped cream.
- Dust with unsweetened cocoa powder, if desired.
