Ingredients for Basic Steak Sandwich

  • Sirloin Steak
  • Barbecue Sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Yellow Onion
  • Mushroom
  • Vegetable Oil
  • 1 sub roll or bread of your choice

How to Make Basic Steak Sandwich

  1. Preheat grill to medium-low heat.
  2. Grill your steak (about 1 inch thick) for 6 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust to your desired doneness. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  3. While the steak rests, slice 1 medium onion thinly.
  4. Slice 8 oz of mushrooms into medium-sized pieces.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  6. Once the steak has rested, slice it into thin strips and add it to the bowl with the BBQ sauce mixture. Toss to coat.
  7. Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  8. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms to the skillet. Stir frequently until softened and slightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  9. Open your sub roll (or bread of choice).
  10. Add the sautéed onions and mushrooms to the bottom half of the roll.
  11. Top with the BBQ-coated steak strips.
  12. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of ketchup (optional).
  13. Add the top half of the roll and enjoy your delicious steak sandwich!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
