How to Make Beaujolais Steak For Two

  1. Pat steaks dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Set a heavy-bottomed frying pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil (optional) to the pan.
  3. When the pan is hot, add butter. Tilt the pan to coat the bottom evenly.
  4. Add steaks to the pan and sear for 3 minutes per side for rare, or 5 minutes per side for medium. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  5. Remove steaks from the pan and set aside on a heated plate, tenting loosely with foil to keep warm.
  6. Pour off excess fat from the pan, leaving behind the browned bits.
  7. Pour Beaujolais wine into the pan and increase heat to medium-high. Scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to loosen any browned bits.
  8. Stir in salsa and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and cook until the sauce slightly thickens, about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Pour the Beaujolais sauce over the steaks and serve immediately.
