Ingredients for Caramel Apples
- 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith recommended)
- Wooden Popsicle Sticks
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- Dark Brown Sugar
- Milk
How to Make Caramel Apples
- Pierce apples with popsicle sticks and set aside.
- Melt 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Add 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup light corn syrup, 1/4 cup water, and 1/4 teaspoon salt to the melted butter. Gently bring to a boil, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula.
- Once boiling, cover the saucepan, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Remove from heat. The mixture should be thin but sticky, and the saucepan sides should be steamy.
- Stir the caramel mixture well to combine and allow to thicken slightly for about 1 minute before dipping.
- Dip apples into the caramel, turning to coat evenly. You can double dip for extra caramel coverage if desired.
- Place the dipped apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet or wire rack to cool and set.
- Refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours, or until the caramel is fully set.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
