- Grease two baking sheets.
- In a heavy 2-quart saucepan, melt 8 ounces (227g) of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 3/4 cups (210g) all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- In a large bowl, beat 2 large eggs, 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract with an electric mixer until well combined.
- Gradually add the cooled melted chocolate mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Stir in 1 cup (170g) chocolate chips and 1/2 cup (60g) chopped nuts (optional).
- Drop by heaping tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are set and the centers are still slightly gooey.
- Let cool on the baking sheets for a couple of minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Store covered at room temperature for 4-5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
