How to Make Go Big Red Cake Frosting

  1. In a small saucepan, heat 1/2 cup of milk over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour until smooth. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency (about 2-3 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, beat 1 cup of powdered sugar until smooth.
  4. Add 1/2 cup (1 stick) of softened unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat until light and fluffy.
  5. Gradually add the cooled milk-flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, beating until smooth and creamy.
  6. If the frosting is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk at a time until you reach your desired consistency. If too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.
  7. Refrigerate the frosting for at least 30 minutes to allow it to set and fully chill before frosting your cake. Refrigerate the frosted cake as well!
