How to Make Love Knots

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a stiff dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-1 1/2 hours.
  6. Punch down the dough to release the air.
  7. Divide the dough into three equal portions. Cover two portions with plastic wrap to prevent drying.
  8. Shape one portion of the dough into 12 equal-sized balls.
  9. Roll each ball into an 8-inch rope.
  10. In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon for the topping.
  11. Dip each cinnamon rope into melted butter, then coat generously with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  12. Tie each rope into a knot. Tuck and pinch the ends underneath to secure.
  13. Place the Love Knots on ungreased baking sheets.
  14. Repeat steps 8-13 with the remaining dough portions.
  15. Cover the baking sheets loosely with plastic wrap and let rise for another 30 minutes, until almost doubled.
  16. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  17. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
