How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 medium onion, thinly sliced, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Sauté the onions for about 5 minutes, until they begin to turn translucent.
  3. Add 1 green bell pepper, cored, seeded, and sliced, and sauté for another 4-5 minutes.
  4. Add 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms and continue to sauté for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Lay out 1 pound of pizza dough on a lightly floured countertop. Roll it out to about 1/4 inch thickness, shaping it into a square.
  6. Spread 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese over the pizza dough, leaving a 2-inch border on all sides.
  7. Layer 8 ounces of thinly sliced roast beef over the cheese, leaving the same 2-inch border.
  8. Evenly distribute the sautéed onions, peppers, and mushrooms over the roast beef, again leaving a 2-inch border.
  9. Starting at the edge closest to you, tightly roll the dough to enclose the filling. Seal the seam along the bottom and ends by pinching the dough together.
  10. Brush the top of the dough with 1 tablespoon of melted butter and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  11. Place the stromboli on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Let the stromboli stand for about 10 minutes before slicing to prevent the cheese from running out.
  13. Slice and enjoy your delicious Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli!
