Ingredients for Red Hot Applesauce

  • 4 large apples (about 2 pounds), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • Red Cinnamon Candies
  • Sugar Substitute
  • Water

How to Make Red Hot Applesauce

  1. Peel, core, and chop 4 large apples (about 2 pounds).
  2. In a large saucepan, combine the chopped apples, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves.
  3. Add 1/2 cup apple cider or apple juice.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 60-75 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  6. For a smoother applesauce, use an immersion blender or carefully transfer the applesauce to a regular blender and puree until smooth. (Be cautious when blending hot liquids!)
  7. Serve warm over your favorite breakfast treat or enjoy it on its own!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
