- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef with 1 medium onion, chopped. Cook for 10 minutes, breaking up the beef as it cooks.
- Drain off any excess grease and set the beef and onion mixture aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 green bell pepper (chopped), 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, and 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Transfer the beef mixture from step 3 to a large pot or Dutch oven.
- Add 2 (10.75 ounce) cans of condensed tomato soup to the pot.
- Stir in the sautéed vegetables from step 4.
- Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Add 1 (14.5 ounce) can of diced tomatoes, undrained.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the pot and stir gently until everything is well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly. Serve hot.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
