How to Make Apple Crumbles Cake
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a food processor, combine 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, ¾ cup packed light brown sugar, 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the remaining ½ cup all-purpose flour to the food processor and pulse until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Reserve about ⅓ of the crumble mixture. Press the remaining crumble into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In a large bowl, combine 6 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced), ½ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice.
- Microwave the apple mixture for 6-8 minutes, or until slightly softened (Microwave wattage varies, watch carefully). Stir in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons of water. Microwave again for 1-2 minutes, or until thickened. Let cool slightly.
- Spread the apple filling evenly over the crumble layer in the pan.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumble mixture evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Let cool completely before serving.
- (Optional) Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
