- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
- 12 tablespoons (1 ½ sticks) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
How to Make Apple Pies Made To Freeze
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the peeled, cored, and sliced apples with the tapioca, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss gently to coat.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crusts.
- Dot the filling with butter.
- Cover the pies with the top crusts and crimp the edges to seal. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the pies cool completely on a wire rack before freezing.
- Once cooled, wrap each pie individually in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil for freezer storage. Or, remove pies from tins and stack the frozen pie disks, wrapped in plastic wrap, in a freezer-safe container.
- To reheat: Thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through. Alternatively, reheat slices in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
