Ingredients for Asparagus Won Tons

  • Approximately 2 cups vegetable oil
  • Vegetable Soup Mix
  • 1 cup chopped asparagus
  • Water Chestnut
  • Wonton Wrappers
  • Soy sauce (optional, for serving)

How to Make Asparagus Won Tons

  1. Heat 3/4 inch of oil (approximately 2 cups) in an uncovered electric skillet to 360°F (182°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 1 (1-ounce) envelope instant spring vegetable soup mix, 1 cup chopped asparagus, and 1/2 cup chopped water chestnuts.
  3. Place approximately 2 teaspoons of the asparagus mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  4. Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, and press the edges firmly to seal.
  5. Bring two opposite points of the triangle together to form a wonton. Overlap the points slightly.
  6. Moisten the overlapping points with water and press firmly to seal completely.
  7. Carefully place wontons in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, approximately 2-3 minutes per batch.
  8. Remove wontons from the oil and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve immediately. Optional: Serve with a side of soy sauce for dipping.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
