How to Make Asparagus Won Tons
- Heat 3/4 inch of oil (approximately 2 cups) in an uncovered electric skillet to 360°F (182°C).
- In a medium bowl, combine 1 (1-ounce) envelope instant spring vegetable soup mix, 1 cup chopped asparagus, and 1/2 cup chopped water chestnuts.
- Place approximately 2 teaspoons of the asparagus mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper.
- Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, and press the edges firmly to seal.
- Bring two opposite points of the triangle together to form a wonton. Overlap the points slightly.
- Moisten the overlapping points with water and press firmly to seal completely.
- Carefully place wontons in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, approximately 2-3 minutes per batch.
- Remove wontons from the oil and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately. Optional: Serve with a side of soy sauce for dipping.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
