Ingredients for Aussie Lamb Sandwich Souvlaki

  • Lamb Steaks
  • 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce (or to taste)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 large Lebanese breads
  • Mesclun
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Red Capsicum

How to Make Aussie Lamb Sandwich Souvlaki

  1. In a small bowl, combine lamb strips, teriyaki sauce, minced garlic, Tabasco sauce, olive oil, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Marinate the lamb for at least 30 minutes (longer is better!).
  3. Preheat your BBQ or grill plate to high heat.
  4. Cook the lamb strips, turning occasionally, until cooked to your desired level of doneness (approximately 5-7 minutes).
  5. While the lamb cooks, lay out the Lebanese bread on a plate. Top each bread with mesclun mix and capers.
  6. Dollop sour cream (about 1/8 cup per bread) in three places on top of the salad.
  7. Arrange capsicum strips to one side of the sour cream.
  8. Place the cooked lamb strips over the middle of the bread.
  9. Fold in the top and bottom edges of the bread, then tightly roll up the sides to create a sandwich.
  10. (Optional) For extra crispy bread, place the rolled sandwiches under a sandwich press for 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy with an ice-cold beer (optional, but recommended)!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
