Ingredients for Bacon Baked Beans

  • 5 slices bacon
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Baked Beans
  • Apricot Preserves
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Spicy Brown Mustard

How to Make Bacon Baked Beans

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Chop 3 slices of bacon into small pieces.
  3. In an oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook the chopped bacon, 1 medium chopped onion, and 2 cloves minced garlic, stirring occasionally, until the bacon is crispy and the onion and garlic are softened (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Remove the pot from the heat.
  5. Stir in 2 (15-ounce) cans of baked beans, 1/2 cup brown sugar or maple syrup, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, and 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard.
  6. Cut the remaining 2 bacon slices in half.
  7. Arrange the bacon halves over the top of the baked beans.
  8. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until the bacon is perfectly crisp and the beans are bubbly and heated through. If using kielbasa, add it in step 5 along with other ingredients.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
