Ingredients for Baked Apple With Maple Yogurt Sauce

  • Apples
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (or yogurt of your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

How to Make Baked Apple With Maple Yogurt Sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
  3. Core the apples, removing the top inch of peel.
  4. Using a small paring knife, create a shallow cut around the center of each apple to prevent the skin from bursting during baking.
  5. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  6. Spoon the spice mixture into the center of each cored apple.
  7. Place apples upright in a baking dish or pie plate.
  8. Add 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of the dish.
  9. Bake, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes for less firm apples, or up to 50 minutes for firm varieties, or until apples are tender when pierced with a toothpick.
  10. While apples are baking, prepare the maple yogurt sauce by combining yogurt and maple syrup in a small bowl.
  11. Once apples are cooked, carefully remove them from the oven and let cool slightly.
  12. Pour the maple yogurt sauce over the baked apples and serve warm.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
