Ingredients for Baked Maple And Cinnamon Squash

  • Margarine
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Brown Sugar
  • Butternut Squash

How to Make Baked Maple And Cinnamon Squash

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut a 2-pound butternut squash in half lengthwise, remove seeds and stringy pulp.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup pure maple syrup, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Place squash halves, cut-side up, on the prepared baking sheet. Brush half of the maple cinnamon mixture evenly over the cut surfaces of the squash.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and brush with the remaining maple cinnamon mixture.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes, or until the squash is very tender and slightly caramelized.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
