Ingredients for Baked Meatball Sandwich Rounds

  • French Bread Dough
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • Meatballs
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Butter

How to Make Baked Meatball Sandwich Rounds

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a large baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Unroll one 16-ounce loaf of French bread.
  4. Spread 1/2 cup of your favorite pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the unrolled dough.
  5. Arrange 1.5 cups of sliced turkey meatballs (or 1 pound of your favorite meatballs or Italian sausage, sliced) over the pizza sauce.
  6. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs.
  7. Sprinkle 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese on top of the mozzarella.
  8. Starting with the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  9. Using a sharp knife, make several (about 5-7) shallow slits along the top of the dough to allow steam to escape.
  10. Place the roll seam-down on the prepared baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 15 minutes.
  12. Brush the top of the roll with 1 tablespoon of melted butter or olive oil.
  13. Bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
