How to Make Baked Meatball Sandwich Rounds
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Lightly grease a large baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
- Unroll one 16-ounce loaf of French bread.
- Spread 1/2 cup of your favorite pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the unrolled dough.
- Arrange 1.5 cups of sliced turkey meatballs (or 1 pound of your favorite meatballs or Italian sausage, sliced) over the pizza sauce.
- Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese on top of the mozzarella.
- Starting with the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Using a sharp knife, make several (about 5-7) shallow slits along the top of the dough to allow steam to escape.
- Place the roll seam-down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- Brush the top of the roll with 1 tablespoon of melted butter or olive oil.
- Bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
