How to Make Baked Mozzarella Sticks
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Remove mozzarella sticks from packages. Cut each stick in half crosswise.
- In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup cornstarch.
- In a separate shallow dish, whisk 2 large egg whites with 1 tablespoon of water until frothy.
- In a third shallow dish, combine 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured stick into the egg white mixture, ensuring it's fully coated, including the ends.
- Coat the stick thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
- Dip back into the egg whites and then breadcrumbs a second time for extra crispiness.
- Place the coated mozzarella sticks on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Freeze for at least 1 hour.
- Drizzle the frozen mozzarella sticks with 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve immediately with your favorite marinara sauce.
