Ingredients for Baked Mozzarella Sticks

  • Mozzarella String Cheese
  • All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Dried Oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Butter
  • Marinara sauce, for serving

How to Make Baked Mozzarella Sticks

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Remove mozzarella sticks from packages. Cut each stick in half crosswise.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup cornstarch.
  4. In a separate shallow dish, whisk 2 large egg whites with 1 tablespoon of water until frothy.
  5. In a third shallow dish, combine 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  6. Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  7. Dip the floured stick into the egg white mixture, ensuring it's fully coated, including the ends.
  8. Coat the stick thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
  9. Dip back into the egg whites and then breadcrumbs a second time for extra crispiness.
  10. Place the coated mozzarella sticks on an ungreased baking sheet.
  11. Freeze for at least 1 hour.
  12. Drizzle the frozen mozzarella sticks with 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  13. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and crispy.
  14. Serve immediately with your favorite marinara sauce.
  15. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
