Ingredients for Baked Ziti With Spinach Sausage And Mozzarella

  • Hot Italian Turkey Sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Diced Tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup pesto sauce
  • Ziti Pasta
  • Fresh Spinach Leaves
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

How to Make Baked Ziti With Spinach Sausage And Mozzarella

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large heavy saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook, breaking up the sausage with a spoon, until sausage is browned and cooked through (about 10-12 minutes).
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  6. Stir in pesto sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Lightly grease the 13x9 inch baking dish with olive oil.
  8. In a large bowl, combine cooked ziti, spinach, 2/3 cup mozzarella cheese, and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese.
  9. Add the hot tomato sauce to the pasta mixture and gently toss until the spinach is wilted.
  10. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup mozzarella cheese and 2/3 cup Parmesan cheese over the top.
  12. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese is melted and golden brown.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
