How to Make Beef Kabobs Kebabs
- Drain one (20 ounce) can of pineapple chunks, reserving the juice.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the reserved pineapple juice, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
- Pour the marinade into a large, shallow dish.
- Add 2 pounds of cubed beef sirloin (about 1-inch cubes) to the marinade. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).
- Remove the beef from the marinade, reserving the marinade.
- In a saucepan, bring the reserved marinade to a boil over medium heat.
- Add 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms to the boiling marinade. Reduce heat to low, simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender.
- Remove the mushrooms from the marinade, reserving the marinade.
- Thread the beef, pineapple chunks, mushrooms, 1 medium onion (cut into chunks), 1 green bell pepper (cut into chunks), and 2 medium potatoes (cut into 1-inch chunks) onto skewers, alternating ingredients as desired.
- Preheat grill to medium heat. Grill the kabobs for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally and basting frequently with the reserved marinade and/or your favorite BBQ sauce, until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness and vegetables are tender.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
