Ingredients for Beefy Spanish Rice

  • Vegetable Oil
  • Converted White Rice
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Canned Corn
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt And Pepper
  • garlic powder to taste

How to Make Beefy Spanish Rice

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add 1 medium chopped onion and 1 chopped bell pepper. Sauté for 5 minutes, or until onions are softened.
  3. Add 1 pound of ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. Stir in 1 (15-ounce) can of corn (drained or undrained, your preference!), 1 (15-ounce) can of tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons of ketchup, and 1 cup of water.
  5. Add 1 ½ cups of long-grain rice.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through and the liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally.
  7. Season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Fluff with a fork before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
