Ingredients for Beer Rice

  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • Red Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup beer (lager or pilsner recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves

How to Make Beer Rice

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup chopped onion and 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper. Saute until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Pour in 2 cups of chicken broth, 1 cup of uncooked long-grain rice, 1/2 cup of your favorite beer (lager or pilsner recommended), 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves, salt, and pepper to taste.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
  4. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving. Garnish with extra thyme leaves, if desired.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
