Ingredients for Gyro Meat
- Lean Ground Lamb
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper (use less if using all beef)
How to Make Gyro Meat
- In a large bowl, thoroughly combine 1 lb ground lamb (or a mix of lamb and beef), 1/2 cup finely chopped onion, 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley, 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 tbsp dried oregano, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1/2 tsp ground coriander, 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Gently shape the mixture into four 1/2-inch thick patties.
- Preheat your broiler. Place the patties on a broiler pan and broil for 8-10 minutes per side, or until cooked through and no longer pink. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
- Remove from broiler and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
- Serve immediately on warm pita bread with sliced tomatoes, thinly sliced red onions, and a generous dollop of Cucumber Yogurt Sauce.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
