How to Make Mint Julep

  1. Place the 10-12 fresh mint leaves in a mortar.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of superfine sugar to the mortar.
  3. Using a pestle, gently muddle the mint and sugar together until the leaves are slightly broken down and the sugar is dissolved. Do not over-muddle.
  4. Transfer the mint-sugar mixture to a chilled, double Old Fashioned glass or a rocks glass.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of seltzer water.
  6. Fill the glass about ¾ full with ice cubes.
  7. Pour in 2 ounces of bourbon (adjust to your preferred strength).
  8. Top with a splash of additional seltzer water.
  9. Gently stir to combine.
  10. Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and enjoy!
