How to Make 11 Layer Salad

  1. Cook 1/2 pound bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels and crumble.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons sugar until smooth.
  3. Set the mayonnaise mixture aside.
  4. Chop 1 medium onion, 1 bell pepper (any color), 2 cups cauliflower florets, 2 cups broccoli florets, and 1 cup sliced mushrooms into bite-sized pieces.
  5. In a large 9x13 inch baking dish, begin layering:
  6. Layer 1: Spread half of a large head of lettuce (roughly 8 cups chopped) evenly across the bottom.
  7. Layer 2: Spread half of the mayonnaise mixture over the lettuce.

  11. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning over the top.
  12. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
