How to Make All Purpose Bread Stuffing

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add celery and onion and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. If using, add the cooked sausage to the bread mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and chicken broth.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread mixture, stirring gently to combine. Make sure all the bread is moistened but not soggy.
  7. Spoon the stuffing into the turkey cavity, packing it loosely. Any remaining stuffing can be baked in a separate greased casserole dish. If using a separate dish, cover tightly with foil.
  8. Bake the stuffed turkey according to your turkey's cooking instructions. If baking stuffing in a separate dish, bake for 45-60 minutes, or until heated through and golden brown, and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). If using foil, remove it during the last 15 minutes of baking to allow the top to brown.
