Ingredients for Apple Cabbage Strudel

  • Green Cabbage
  • Onion
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended), thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • Sour Cream
  • Prepared Mustard
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 package (14.1 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter

How to Make Apple Cabbage Strudel

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, thinly sliced apples, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gently toss to coat.
  3. Lay out a sheet of phyllo dough on a lightly floured surface. Brush lightly with melted butter.
  4. Layer another sheet of phyllo dough on top, brushing with butter again. Repeat until you have 4-5 layers.
  5. Spread the apple cabbage mixture evenly over the phyllo dough, leaving a 2-inch border.
  6. Carefully roll up the strudel from the long side, tucking in the ends to seal.
  7. Place the strudel seam-down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with remaining melted butter.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving. Enjoy with a side of roast pork!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
