How to Make Apple Sausage Cheddar Quiche

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Fit a 9-inch deep-dish pie crust into a pie plate. Fold edges under and crimp.
  3. Prick the bottom and sides of the crust with a fork.
  4. Blind bake the crust for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  5. While the crust bakes, brown 1 lb of sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon until fully cooked. Drain off any excess grease and set aside to cool.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the cooled sausage, 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1 medium apple (peeled, cored, and diced), 1/4 cup chopped onion, 2 large eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  7. Pour the sausage mixture into the pre-baked pie crust.
  8. Sprinkle lightly with paprika.
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 325°F (160°C).
