Ingredients for Arabic Green Beans With Beef

  • Vegetable Oil
  • Round Roast
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • About 1 cup water (enough to almost cover the beef and beans)
  • Fresh Green Beans
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Canned Tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce

How to Make Arabic Green Beans With Beef

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add 1 lb beef stew meat and brown on all sides for about 10 minutes. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  3. Add 1 large onion, chopped, to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet. Stir in 1 cup of beef broth.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon allspice, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  6. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed.
  8. Cover and simmer for another 15 minutes.
  9. Stir in 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes and 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce.
  10. Add enough water to almost cover the beef and beans (about 1 cup).
  11. Cover and simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the green beans are cooked through. Optional: Add 2 cloves garlic, minced, or a pinch of red pepper flakes during the last 15 minutes for extra flavor.
  12. Serve hot and enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
