How to Make Arayes Mini Meat Calzones
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a large bowl, combine 1 lb ground lamb, 1/2 cup finely chopped onion, 1/2 cup chopped tomato, 2 cloves crushed garlic, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsp baharat spice mix (recipe #224763), 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 1 tbsp lemon juice, and 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts. Mix thoroughly.
- Cut a loaf of pita bread (or similar flatbread) into 8 quarters.
- Open each pita quarter and spread a generous tablespoon of the lamb mixture onto one half. Fold the other half over to create a half-moon shape and gently press the edges to seal.
- Brush both sides of each calzone with 1 tbsp olive oil.
- Arrange the calzones on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes in the center of the oven, flipping them halfway through (at 15 minutes).
- Serve warm with hummus, your favorite Arabic salad, and/or pickles.
