How to Make Aunt Betty's Fruit Salad

  1. Drain one (20 ounce) can of fruit cocktail, reserving the juice. Set aside the drained fruit.
  2. Measure 2 cups of the reserved fruit juice.
  3. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of boiling water and the 2 cups of reserved fruit juice.
  4. Add one (3 ounce) package of Jello (any flavor – cherry, strawberry, or even lime work great!), and stir until completely dissolved.
  5. Pour the jello mixture into a 9x13 inch mold or a large bowl.
  6. Refrigerate for about 1 hour, or until the jello is partially set (but still slightly jiggly).
  7. Gently stir in the drained fruit cocktail and 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or your favorite).
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 more hours, or until the jello is completely set.
  9. To unmold, run the bottom of the mold under warm water for a few seconds.
  10. Place a serving plate on top of the mold and carefully invert to release the jello.
  11. Serve chilled and enjoy!
