  • Cod
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Salt And Pepper
  • Fresh Parsley
  • 6 large eggs
  • Lemon wedges, for garnish

How to Make Bacalhau A Bras

  1. Finely chop 1 large onion and 2 cloves of garlic.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add 1 pound of shredded, pre-cooked and cooled salt cod (bacalhau) to the skillet. Gently stir to combine and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 6 large eggs with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Pour the egg mixture into the skillet with the cod and onions. Cook, stirring gently, until the eggs are set but still slightly moist, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Transfer the Bacalhau à Brás to a serving platter. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley.
  7. Garnish with lemon wedges and serve immediately with thinly sliced french fries, rice, and a mixed green salad with vinaigrette dressing. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice over each serving is optional.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
