- 1/2 pound bacon
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- Green Bell Pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Great Northern Beans
- 1/4 cup molasses
- Ketchup
- Barbecue Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Salt And Black Pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
How to Make Bacon And Molasses Beans
- Cook 1/2 pound bacon in a heavy pot over medium heat until crisp. Transfer bacon to paper towels and set aside, reserving 2 tablespoons of bacon fat.
- Add 1 medium chopped onion, 1 chopped bell pepper, and 2 cloves minced garlic to the pot with the reserved bacon fat.
- Sauté for 7-8 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- Add 1 (15-ounce) can of baked beans, 1/4 cup molasses, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, and 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard to the pot.
- Stir in the cooked bacon.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, OR transfer to a 325°F (160°C) preheated oven and bake, covered, for 30-35 minutes.
- (Optional) During the last 15 minutes of baking (oven method only), top with 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
