Ingredients for Bacon Shallot Rice Pilaf

  • 4 slices bacon, diced
  • Orzo Pasta
  • Shallot
  • Long Grain Rice
  • Low Sodium Chicken Broth
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

How to Make Bacon Shallot Rice Pilaf

  1. Dice bacon and cook in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat until browned and crispy, about 5-7 minutes, turning frequently. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  2. Add orzo to the saucepan and cook, stirring frequently, for 3-4 minutes until lightly toasted.
  3. Add sliced shallots to the saucepan and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in Arborio rice to coat with the bacon fat in the pan.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and water. Add salt.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
  7. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
  8. Fluff the pilaf with a fork and sprinkle with the reserved crispy bacon.
  9. Serve hot as a delicious side dish.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
