  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped shallots
  • Fish Fillets
  • Salt & Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • Dry White Wine
  • Heavy Cream
  • Fresh Breadcrumbs
  • Fresh Parsley

How to Make Baked Fish

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Butter a small baking dish (approximately 8x8 inches) with 1/2 tablespoon of butter.
  3. Sprinkle the bottom of the dish with 1 teaspoon of finely chopped shallots, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Season the fish fillets generously with salt and pepper.
  5. Gently roll each fillet into a turban shape, making it as compact as possible. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
  6. Arrange the fish turbans in the prepared baking dish, seam-side down.
  7. Pour 2 tablespoons of dry white wine and 1/4 cup of heavy cream evenly over the fish.
  8. Sprinkle evenly with 1/4 cup breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley, 1 teaspoon of finely chopped shallots, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.
  9. Melt the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of butter and drizzle it over the fish and breadcrumbs.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the breadcrumbs are golden brown and crispy.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
