Ingredients for Bbq Red Beans

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 slices bacon, diced
  • Yellow Onion
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup ale (or beef broth)
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • Dry Rub Seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • Pink Beans

How to Make Bbq Red Beans

  1. In a 6- to 10-quart pot or Dutch oven, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
  2. Add 4 slices of bacon, diced, 1 medium onion, chopped, and 2 stalks of celery, chopped. Sauté until vegetables are softened, about 15 minutes.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce, 1/2 cup ale (or beef broth), 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon dry rub seasoning, 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to a simmer and stir in 2 tablespoons of tomato paste.
  6. Simmer the sauce, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.
  7. Add 4 (15-ounce) cans of kidney beans (or pink beans), drained and rinsed, 2 (15-ounce) cans of diced tomatoes, undrained, and 1/2 pound of browned ground pork sausage. Add 1 teaspoon baking soda (optional).
  8. Simmer, stirring frequently, for at least 1 hour, or until beans are tender. Adjust cayenne pepper to your desired spice level (start with 1/4 teaspoon and add more to taste).
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
