How to Make Beef Biscuit Casserole
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large nonstick skillet, brown the 1 lb ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Add the 1 medium chopped onion and 1 chopped green bell pepper; cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in the 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, 1 tablespoon chili powder, and 1 teaspoon garlic salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Separate the refrigerated biscuits into 10 biscuits. Split each biscuit in half.
- Press 10 biscuit halves into the bottom of an ungreased 8x8 inch or 9x9 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, and 1 beaten egg.
- Remove the meat mixture from the heat and stir in the sour cream mixture.
- Spoon the meat mixture evenly over the biscuit layer in the baking pan.
- Arrange the remaining biscuit halves on top of the meat mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the biscuits.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
