How to Make Cheeseburger Stuffed French Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown 1 lb ground beef and 1 medium chopped onion over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in 10.75 oz can of condensed French onion soup, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, or until heated through.
  4. Meanwhile, slice the top third off the French bread loaf. Carefully hollow out the bottom two-thirds, leaving a 3/4-inch shell. Save the bread chunks (or feed them to the birds!).
  5. Spread the top slice of bread with 1 tbsp of softened butter.
  6. Place the hollowed-out bread on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  7. Remove from the oven and fill the hollowed-out bread with the meat mixture. Top with 8-10 slices of cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese).
  8. Place the buttered top slice next to the filled bread on the baking sheet.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is heated through and lightly toasted.
  10. Carefully place the top slice onto the filled bread.
  11. Let cool slightly before slicing into 4-5 inch wide portions. Serve immediately and enjoy!
