How to Make Katie's Spaghetti Sauce

  1. In a large kettle, brown 1 lb ground beef with 1 large onion (chopped) and 2 cloves garlic (minced). Drain excess grease.
  2. Add 2 (28 ounce) cans of crushed tomatoes and 1 (6 ounce) can of tomato paste.
  3. Continue browning the meat and vegetables until the meat is cooked through and the onions are softened.
  4. Stir in 2 teaspoons dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1 bay leaf, and 1/2 cup of chopped fresh parsley. Add approximately 8 cups of water.
  5. Simmer uncovered for 4 to 6 hours, stirring frequently. Do not cover tightly, or the sauce will become watery.
  6. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
  7. Serve over your favorite pasta, topped with grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy with plenty of crusty Italian bread for dipping!
