How to Make Kids Night Spaghetti Sauce

  1. In a large heavy skillet (Dutch oven recommended), brown 1 lb ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Stir in 28 oz can crushed tomatoes, 15 oz can tomato sauce, 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste, 1 medium onion (chopped), 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then immediately reduce heat to low.
  4. Barely simmer for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor will be! (Up to 3 hours is even better!)
  5. If the sauce becomes too thick, add 1/4 cup of water at a time until you reach your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
