How to Make Reuben Burger
- In a bowl, gently mix 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes into 1/2 pound ground beef. Form into two equal patties.
- Place a slice of Swiss cheese (or your preferred cheese) on one patty. Top with the second patty and gently press the edges to seal.
- Cook 4 slices of bacon until crispy. Remove from pan, drain on paper towels, and set aside. Reserve 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the pan.
- Add the burger patties to the pan over high heat. Sear for 2 minutes per side. Reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Flip the burger. Add 1 cup sliced mushrooms to the pan, cover, and continue cooking for 3-4 minutes, or until mushrooms are tender.
- Create space in the pan. Add 1/2 cup sauerkraut and cook for 2 minutes, or until heated through. Keep the kraut separate from the mushrooms.
- While the burger cooks, lightly toast the insides of two hamburger buns. Once the burger is cooked, place the patty in the bun. Top with sauerkraut, bacon, and 2-3 jalapeño slices.
- Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as a simple lettuce, tomato, and onion salad, sauteed mushrooms, and oven-baked fries.
