How to Make Apache Cheese Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the top off a large round loaf of bread (about 1 pound), reserving the top for later.
  3. Carefully hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about a ½-inch border.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the following ingredients: 8 ounces cream cheese (softened), 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, ½ cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese, ¼ cup chopped green chilies, 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional). Mix well.
  5. Fill the hollowed-out bread with the cheese mixture.
  6. Replace the bread top.
  7. Place the bread on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving with tortilla chips.
