Ingredients for Apple Nut Muffins With Streusel Topping

  • All Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Ground Nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Butter
  • Light Brown Sugar
  • Sweet Apple
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

How to Make Apple Nut Muffins With Streusel Topping

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or grease and flour the tin.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter. Add the sugar and whisk until combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples and walnuts.
  6. Fill each muffin cup about 2/3 full.
  7. For the streusel topping: In a small bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, chopped walnuts, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  8. Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of the streusel topping over each muffin.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the muffins cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
