How to Make Asparagus Beef Skillet
- Freeze steak for at least two hours. Once frozen, slice into 1/4-inch strips.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak strips and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned but still pink (approximately 5-7 minutes).
- Remove steak from skillet and set aside in a bowl.
- Add remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Add sliced onion and cook for 3 minutes, until softened.
- Pour in sherry and add asparagus. Cover the skillet and cook for 5 minutes, or until asparagus is tender-crisp.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, cornstarch, sugar, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened (about 1-2 minutes).
- Return the steak to the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes, just until heated through and still pink.
- Serve immediately over hot rice and with a side of green salad.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
