- 4-6 slices bacon

- White Bread
- 2-3 tablespoons butter
- 1-2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
How to Make Bacon Caramelized Onion Melted Cheese Sandwich
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil.
- Place 4-6 slices of bacon on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked to your desired crispness. Remove from oven and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
- While the bacon is baking, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a medium skillet over medium heat.
- Add 1 large onion, thinly sliced, to the skillet. Cook, stirring frequently, for 15-20 minutes, or until the onions are deeply caramelized and very soft. Add 1 tablespoon of butter as needed to prevent sticking.
- During the last 1-2 minutes of onion cooking, place 2-4 slices of your favorite cheese (cheddar, provolone, etc.) on top of the onions to melt.
- If desired, spread 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise on each slice of bread.
- Layer the cooked bacon on one slice of bread, followed by the caramelized onions and melted cheese.
- Top with the other slice of bread to create your sandwich.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
