  • All Purpose Flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 7 tablespoons (1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • Buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk (for frosting, as needed)

How to Make Banana Chocolate Chip Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9x13x2 inch oblong baking pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients EXCEPT chocolate chips. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping down the sides of the bowl constantly.
  4. Increase speed to high and beat for 3 minutes, scraping down the sides occasionally.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips by hand.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  9. To make the vanilla butter frosting:
  10. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  11. Gradually add the vanilla extract and milk, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  12. Add more powdered sugar or milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
