How to Make Barbecued Ribs
- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Place ribs on a rack in a shallow roasting pan.
- Scatter 4 cloves of sliced garlic evenly over the ribs.
- Cover the roasting pan tightly with foil.
- Bake for 3 hours.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- In a small bowl, prepare the dry rub: Mix together 1/4 cup white sugar, 2 tablespoons paprika, 1 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon black pepper, 1 tablespoon chili powder, and 1 tablespoon ground cumin.
- Generously rub the spice mixture all over the cooled ribs.
- Cover the ribs and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).
- Next day, prepare the BBQ sauce: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup cider vinegar, 1/2 cup molasses, 1 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup chili sauce, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1 tablespoon dry mustard, and 1 clove crushed garlic.
- Simmer over medium-low heat, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
- Remove from heat. Reserve about 1/2 cup of sauce for basting. Use the remaining sauce as a dipping sauce.
- Preheat grill to medium heat.
- Place ribs on the preheated grill.
- Grill, covered, for about 12 minutes, basting frequently with the reserved sauce until nicely browned and glazed. Internal temperature should reach 190-203°F (88-95°C).
- Serve immediately with the remaining BBQ sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
